Story from Brenda Orman-Sawyers

Dr. Helen C. Cook

Prior to 1988 many minority students did not finish college. Dr. Cook had a vision to retain and graduate at risk minority students. Her vision Toledo Excel was created and implemented in 1989.

The yellow sunburst signifies her dream. The alphabet represents the foundation of education. The vertical, ladder-like reference represents Dr. Cook’s climb to plan and implement this extraordinary scholarship educational program.
